Veneer Tech White Oak 4X8 Plain Sliced Wood on Wood VWO08PW - -. A premier hardwood, both in the U.S. and abroad. Widely used in architectural woodworking and furniture manufacture. Highly figured, even more textured than Red Oak and somewhat easier to work. Often, rift-sawn for a straight or "comb" grain effect, or quarter-sawn for a straight grain with highly prominent "flake.". 。 Heartwood varies from a light tan to a darker, yellowish-brown while the less prevalent sapwood is much lighter. 。 White Oak 。 4 x 8 In Plain Sliced Wood on Wood Back Veneer 。 refers to thin slices of wood that typically are glued onto core panels to produce flat panels such as doors, tops and panels for cabinets, parquet floors and parts of furniture. 。Plain Slicing。The half log, of flitch, is mounted with the heart side flat against the guide plate of the slicer and the slicing is done parallel to a line through the center of the log. This produces a figure to that of plain sawn lumber. 。Quarter Slice。The quarter log, or flitch, is mounted on the guide plate so that the growth rings of the log strike the knife at approximately right angles. This produces a series of stripes, straight in some woods, varied in others.。Rift Cut。 Rift-cut veneer is produced in the various species of Oak. Oak has medullary ray cells, which radiate from the center of the log like the spokes of a wheel. The rift, or comb grain effect, is obtained by slicing slightly across the medullary rays. This accentuates the vertical grain and minimizes the flake.。 。
